The majority of hotels in Gozo registered full occupancy in the last two weekends and the self-catering sector representing farmhouses and apartments also registered very good business, the Gozo Tourism Association said.

“Gozitan Restaurants and bars reported that they were kept busy throughout all days on both weekends. This activity also generated considerable traffic in the large number of vehicles and commuters who made use of services offered by Gozo Channel Co Ltd. The efforts employed by staff of this company in order to meet the heavy demand are also to be commended,” the association said.

The two weekends were extended periods as they were parcelled-in between two public holidays, that of the feast of St Joseph falling on March 19th which preceded Easter weekend and that of Freedom Day which fell on Monday 31st March. Furthermore visitors were offered added attractions on both weekends through the extensive Holy Week pageantry organized by several Gozitan parishes as well as the Seher il-Punent, Festival of Art and Culture organized by the Local Council in Gharb last weekend.

“Whilst thanking the Maltese guests for opting to stay in Gozo and patronize Gozitan tourist establishment during these weekends, the Gozo Tourism Association looks forward to similar busy weekends which would benefit both the Gozitan Tourist Establishments and the economy of Gozo in general. These positive results confirm that Gozo remains an appealing destination during the winter months for the domestic market. They were yet another proof that branding Gozo for its cultural and folkloristic activities is a marketing strategy which should be considered as also valid for the foreign market,” association secretary Joe Muscat said.

“The Gozo Tourism Association is confident that Gozo is likewise potentially appealing to the foreign tourist during the winter months as it is proving to be with the Maltese visitor.”
