Higher cost for diesel, kerosene, heating oils
The price changes
The price of diesel, kerosene, light heating oil and thin fuel oil will go up as from today, Enemalta said yesterday.
While the price of unleaded petrol and LRP remains the same, the price of diesel is for the first time higher than that of unleaded while the cost of kerosene has exceeded that of diesel, also for the first time.

Effie, I'd blame Oil Cartels that have full control over the pricing, oil shortage, war in the middle east, suppression of Energy technology and our Oil addiction.
Just about anything can increase Cost for Oils based products.
Including speculation or Fear (such as fear of bad weather).
Effie, google oil price rise factors
In Germany, on a report released on 02.04.2008 at 12:59 , the Price of crude oil increased by 0.65 Euros.
And the Current Diesel price in Germany is 1.30 Euros per litre.
And this I believe is done, with Price Fixing, take note its also more expensive.
i.e. We're not alone in this, its an international affair.

Mr. Carbonaro, Diesel increased by €0.077 not €35. If you are so blinded by the the thought of the increase why don't you ask any foreign friend you may have, to see what sort of fuel increases they have been having over the past months?? Do you realise that the price o f a barrel of oil is now over $105.00?? Count your lucky stars the prices are still relatively moderate for now!!
As for blaming it on the PN, enjoy it, you have another five years minimum, praying for Labour to be elected!

mr aquilna thats the political gimmick.before the election the manifesto is full of roses after the election you read IT IS NOT OUR FAULT THAT PRICES HAS GONE UP DUE TO UNFORSEEN CIRCUMSTANCES.And who pays for all these?we the people who have read the manifesto full of roses.

I would like anyone who is posting comments to tell us where any party that contested the last election mentioned the fuel cost (not the electricity surcharge) that it would not follow the international markets.
Try to read each manifesto and try to find something written on this subject.

the pn is at his old tricks again.now he has won the election and the 3 months euro gimmick has passed and the prices will start going up again. who cares the diesel has gone up by 35 euros as long as the pn remains in power.who cares that gonzi has decieved a lot of people as long as he remains in power.thats what happens when you go and vote with your heart and not mind.

Can one just say to those that are saying that the increases in fuel are happening all over the EU. The difference between now, and the oil crisis of the early seventies, when there was NO oil to buy on the market (thanks to OPEC), is that Maltese wages and salaries are now MISERABLE when compared to the ones in EU. Just to give you a small example. The average wage in UK is Stg£32,000, equivalent to £m20,000. (This average wage in UK is excluding the ones that earn Stg£152,000 and over). Now how many employed friends of yours do you have in Malta that earn that much? Taste the difference! A second hand (6year old) VW Golf 1.6 petrol in UK sells for Stg£2595 = £m1621, no added tax, no added transfer fees, and no added road tax or VAT. Taste the difference!

The price of LHO has been increased by 25%, which is by far the highest increase! Is that justifiable?

Is there anyone out there who can guess what the coming budget is going to be like? Let me give you a glimps of the present economic situation in Malta. £m1.5 billion in National Debts. £m81 million yearly expense to service this National Debt. Current account in the red and rising. Social Security expenditure up £m4 million this year. Negative balance of payments up because of decrease in exports. Public Health and Hospitals expenditure running at 20 to 23 % more then stated in the last budget! Those are just the numbers out so far! Then again you are now in the EU, so if one does not like it, one can always emigrate! ENJOY!
