UPDATE 2: Officials confirm explosives found at Anchor Bay
Three tanks found in the sea at Anchor Bay contained explosive material, informed sources have confirmed.
The tanks were found after a tip-off yesterday afternoon and recovered from the sea today.
The sources said the discovery consisted of explosive still in three tanks in which it was imported as well as other explosive in bags, and completed fireworks which were on the seabed. A further 18 tanks were found to be empty.
The items will be examined by forensics experts before being disposed of.
The police last week also found explosives stored illegally in a room close to the area, although the two may not be related.
The management of nearby Popeye Village in a statement said that the establishment had nothing to do with the discovery, which was not made on its property.

Irresponsible persons will remain so especially when trying to escape the law.
I am kindly but URGENTLY asking Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici together with the Police Commissioner and the Prime Minister to immediately give out instructions for those who still have illegally stored explosives to give them up as soon as possible, before we hear about someone who blew himself up while retreiving his fish net or a foating object from the sea which was later found to contain fireworks or explosives or else someone who accidentally stepped over some explosive material in the countryside.
THIS IS URGENT AND IMPORTANT .
DO WE NEED PARLIAMENT TO APPROVE THIS ? NO ....Just do it.... many of us do not care how but just do it before it is too late.
I would bet that the tip off was the same person who dumped the material.
