PfP will jeopardise Malta's neutrality - Żminijietna

The Partnership for Peace (PfP) project will jeopardise Malta's neutrality as an EU-member state in the heart of the Mediterranean and ruin its chances to contribute to world peace, Żminijietna - Voice of the Left, said in a press release issued yesterday.

The organisation criticised the anti-democratic decision of the Government to join NATO's project since it was not mentioned in their electoral programme.

PfP is a branch and structure of NATO, whose aggressiveness was shown in recent cases such as Yugoslavia, and which, in the last instance, acts for imperialist interests rather than world peace and social justice, Żminijietna said.

The Leftist organisation believes that instead of having a stronger "imperialist" structure like NATO, there should be a reformed United Nations, so that the Government could undertake "the missions that are necessary". Preventing genocide, it said, should be a global policy priority.
