The rape of Tal-Bebbux
Tal-Bebbux near Zurrieq was a quiet area, with new houses and roads buffered by arable land to decrease as much as possible the noise and fumes from the traffic passing through Blue Grotto Avenue.
Now part of this area has been turned into a playing field and a football ground with all the necessary amenities.
This, I feel, does not make environmental sense when a few metres away you can find a full sized football ground and playing fields and in one square kilometre from Qrendi to Mqabba you can count at least two other grounds, not to mention the school grounds.
I am not against sports or any other kind of recreation but with our limited size, we cannot afford to waste land, especially arable land.
I hope that the government departments responsible for land planning, construction, industries, transport, control of air and water pollution, the protection of the coast and the countryside, are always on the alert to defend our environment.
