Camille Felice, 15, from Balzan, was awarded third prize for her pencil drawing entitled Listen to the Sea, with which she competed in a children's artworks competition organised by the International Ocean Institute (IOI) alongide entries by children from 25 countries that host IOI centres. The winning artworks, including Camille's and others from Malta, were also published in the IOI's Children and the Sea album, which is being distributed worldwide.

Camille's drawing had already won first prize in a local competition entitled 'Youth and the oceans - the artworks competition' held in 2006 by the institute's Malta centre ( IOI-MOC www.capemalta.net ), which is hosted by the University of Malta. Her artwork, along with those of other Maltese participants, may still be viewed on the IOI-Kids website http://www.ioikids.net/voting/index.php , which offers a virtual and interactive learning experience where students learn about the marine and coastal environment through interactive games, lessons, informative articles and audiovisual media.

In line with one of its aims to bring younger generations closer to the oceans, the centre has recently launched two new competitions for primary and secondary school children and youngsters. The 'IOI-Kids Young Journalist award' invites youngsters to write sea-related news articles to be published on the IOI-KIDS news page, while the 'IOI-Kids Best 2008 project' invites contributors to submit marine-themed educational projects.
