A US expert on climate change and environmental governance issues will next week give a public lecture on the effect of air pollution on human health.
The speaker is Catherine Witherspoon, who has more than 26 years of experience in air quality management at the state, local, and federal levels.
Previously, Ms Witherspoon was the executive officer of the California Air Resources Board (CARB), which has led the US and the world in cutting-edge research to identify the causes and impacts of air pollution on public health, social welfare, and the broader ecology.
Ms Witherspoon was directly involved in the drafting of Assembly Bill 32, California's landmark Greenhouse Gas Solutions Act of 2006.
George Debono, a founding member of Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar, will introduce the lecture with a presentation on local pollution issues, and the event will conclude with a discussion session.
The public talk will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Lorenzo Manchè Boys' School in Ospizio, Floriana (behind the police headquarters via Beltissebħ Road).
