International meet at National Pool

Ryan Gambin still on record trail

Competing in the 15th International Swimming Meeting at Tal-Qroqq National Pool yesterday afternoon, the Maltese-Australian swimmer Ryan Gambin maintained his record trial which he started last week in the European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven, when he he swam the backstroke first leg in the 4 x 100 metres medley relay in 1 minute 01.69 seconds.

Gambin's time was 1.61 seconds inside the 12-year-old national record held by Christian Gialanze. He was swimming for Neptunes WPSC.

The meeting, which has attracted about 190 swimmers from five different Maltese clubs, besides others from Germany, Italy, Great Britain and Greece, also incorporates the 2008 National Championships.

The event resumes today with a morning and afternoon session, with two other sessions tomorrow.
