Gift of Life urges participation in CoE abortion vote

Gift of Life, the anti-abortion NGO, has urged the government to ensure that Malta's members of the plenary session of the Council of Europe are appointed in time to take part in a mid-April vote on a resolution on abortion.

The council will be called to vote on a resolution which calls for the de-criminalisation of abortion in all member states, including Malta, without restrictions.

"Such radical measures do not represent the views of the majority of the Maltese," Gift of Life said.

"Despite the logistical and practical difficulties that may arise from the fact that Parliament has not yet convened, Gift of Life is appealing to the government to do all it can to appoint a representative of Malta to the Council of Europe in time to ensure that our voice is heard on the matter," the NGO.

"Although this resolution would have no legal bearing on Malta, we feel that the Maltese Government should do its utmost to ensure that Malta's position is made clear at the plenary," Gift of life said.

The resolution follows a report approved by a committee of the council earlier this month called "Access to Safe and Legal Abortion in Europe."

The report called on the 47 member states of the Council of Europe to make abortion an unconditional right and urged all the member states to "guarantee women's effective exercise of their right to abortion."

Mr. Zammit. "who knows where the most of the money go???". You seem to know. If you do, please inform us about it.

It's probably the surgeon that goes to jail. The woman, most likely, receives support (our duty is to support).

Killing babies is NOT the solution. Providing support and care to woman who are pregnant IS the solution.

Once I told my mother that I preferred that she would have aborted me than bring me in a world full of hypocrites. This I still believe in today. I prefer abortion than making a show of handicapped persons to collect thousands of Euros (for them sic!) and who knows where the most of the money go??? Do the Church authorities check what several priests collecting thousands of Euros do with the money?!?

To Raphael: Yes, I think Gift of Life, and most certainly I, prefer to see a woman go to jail than allow unborn babies to be killed. But I wonder, maybe we can ask the babies? I suppose we'll have to let them live, and then ask them whether they prefer having been killed? Would you prefer having been killed if your mother didn't want you? Without a chance of being adopted perhaps?

Full backing to Gift of Life's position on Malta's participation in CoE abortion vote. The Maltese prefer the blessings of God to the horrible unjust murder of innocent persons who are alive but not yet born. Abortion is a murder and whoever is somehow involved in procuring it, especially the surgeon, is a murderer!
Raphael Vassallo (on 28/3/08)
The CoE resolution proposes decriminalisation, which would prevent a woman from being sentenced to prison for carrying out an abortion. Does Gift of Life prefer to see Maltese women go to prison? Why?
