Faulty Gozo water main traced under rubble
The Water Services Corporation had to use special listening instruments to trace a leak from a faulty nine-inch main buried under this mound.
Extended water cuts in a number of localities in Gozo were cdue to a faulty nine-inch main which was difficult to trace since it was buried under rubble, the Water Services Corporation said yesterday.
The main has been traced and the WSC assured residents in Xewkija, Fontana, Victoria and Taċ-Ċawla - areas affected by the problem - that works to replace the main are expected to start soon.
The corporation explained that rather than being buried just under the surface, the main was buried so deep that technicians using special listening instruments could not trace the leak.
The extreme depth was due to soil and other material having been deposited by unknown persons over a period of years, a situation which the corporation was unaware of.
Although temporary repairs were carried out, the water main will be replaced in the near future.
