Further to my letter published on March 20, permit me to follow-up with this interesting sequel.

"I know I've made mistakes and I am sorry".

These words were uttered by a leading politician - not in Malta I hasten to add. In Malta we have our own definite and distinct set of standards and ethics that give us the glorious "Only in Malta" stamp of "excellence".

These words came from David Cameron, Leader of the Opposition in the British House of Commons and leader of the Conservative Party.

Mr Cameron delivered a public apology after recently jumping two red traffic lights and infringing roundabout rules while cycling to the House of Commons to emphasise his "green" credentials.

He was filmed by The Daily Mirror and the film was made available to national media in the UK.

Besides making a public apology and admitting his errors, Mr Cameron now faces a humiliating lecture from police authorities about honouring road regulations and during which he will be "urged to study the Highway Code".

Maltese politicians and the Malta media please note.

Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi may have aspirations to establish Malta as a "centre of excellence" by 2015 but I can assure him that at our current rate of all-round development this will remain just another unfulfilled target.
