Maltese trio in QFs

Matthew Asciak, Kimberley Cassar and Elaine Genovese are through to the quarter-finals of the ITF world ranking tournament currently being played at the Marsa Sports Club.

Asciak, who on Tuesday beat Austria's M. Brunner, 6-0 6-2, yesterday had another fine outing when he ousted G. De Lovinfosse, of Belgium, 6-4 6-0. In today's quarter-finals he will face Britain's A. Hewitt.

In the girls section, Cassar reached the last eight after beating E. Bertoia of Italy 4-6 7-5 6-3. Cassar, who in the second round had beaten B. Agata, of Poland, 7-5 6-1, will now face Slovenia's Kovac.

Elaine Genovese also had to battle hard before booking her place in the quarter-finals when she had the better of C.Wischhoff, of the Netherlands, 6-7 7-6 6-4. She plays seventh seed Sekulic of Germany today.
