Martin Galea has been co-opted as acting president of the Malta Rugby Football Union (MRFU) until the next annual general meeting in September, the MRFU said in a statement.

Galea's appointment was approved by members during an MRFU council meeting held on Tuesday.

Galea was the first president of the Rugby Association of Malta (RAM) when it was officially founded in 1991.

On his appointment, Galea said he was very pleased to be associated with rugby, having been a player and official for many years in the past. Galea thanked the outgoing president, Juan Borg Manduca, for his contribution.

Prior to Galea's appointment, David Smith had occupied the role of acting president. Smith will now resume his duties as MRFU.
