Naxxar tragedy

Further to the item which appeared in The Sunday Times on March 23 entitled Cabinet Discusses Naxxar Fireworks Blast, an account has also been opened to help the Sultana family whose house was badly damaged in the explosion. Anyone willing to help the Sultana family can deposit money in Bank of Valletta account 400 1706 4060.

Come on grow up Mr Laviera, i don't know why your always the first one to clutch to every news item to criticise the government. I have a better idea than yours, the good causes fund should be used to help your party to bring another marketing expert, i am sure you remember Mr Noble, Maybe the MLP will find an electable party leader for next general election.
Patricia Mifsud (on 27/3/08)
Mr Laiviera, if it had been YOUR home, YOUR life disrupted, YOUR family traumatised irreparably, would you not have been grateful for any solidarity shown with you? I can't begin to imagine what it would be like to come home one day and find my entire material belongings destroyed. Some empathy is seriously required here. Another thing, without quibbling about the good causes fund, these unfortunate people need to be helped NOW. Finally, I agree fully with Mr Darmanin that the festa committees should take responsibility and contribute substantially towards the fund.
Edward Darmanin (on 27/3/08)
I would like to repeat what I had said in a previous posting. I think the festa committees should compensate the families involved as they are directly responsible for this illegal behaviour of the fireworks enthusiasts. I find it hard to believe that whoever those fireworks were destined for did not know what was happening! When will we learn how to hold the truly resposible accountable, rather than sticking our heads in the sand and appealilng for pity and charity from the public. Where will that leave us? Status quo and more victims in the future. In the meantime the band clubs and the organising committees continue supporting this dangerous disrespect for the public.

Where's the good causes fund gone?
Victor Laiviera (on 27/3/08)
Do the unfortunate victims of this tragedy really need to have to depend on charity to resume their lives?

What about "The Good Causes" Fund? Or is that reserved for commercial, profit-making activities organised by commercial, profit-making enterprises?
