Water supply problems in a large part of Gozo, including Xewkija, Fontana, Victoria and Tac-Cawla have been caused by leakage in a 9-inch main which is to be replaced, the Water Services Corporation said.

"The water main, rather than being buried just under the surface, was in fact buried so deep that technicians using special listening instruments could not trace the leakage. This extreme depth was due to soil and other material being deposited by unknown persons over a period of years, which the Corporation was unaware of. Although temporary repairs have been carried out, the water main will be replaced in the near future," the corporation said.
