The agreement between Malta and Singapore for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to taxes on income, became operative on February 29, the government said yesterday.

The agreement had been signed on March 26, 2006. Malta enjoys extensive commercial ties with Singapore and the agreement is expected to contribute to a further expansion in trade between the two sides, the government said.

This year will mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, relations having been established on May 16, 1988.
