I totally agree with Marcelle Bugre (March 22), dogs do rule in Paola. When two years ago my daughter started primary school in Paola, the first thing I did was go the local council to complain about the dog litter surrounding the school premises. I suggested that the area should be washed and disinfected every day prior to the morning rush of students, however the council said that this was impossible to do. I got the same response from the council regarding the garden opposite the school which the children love so much. They said that there are signs indicating that no dogs are allowed in the garden, and persons who were seen in the park with dogs had been told off.

I once approached a man who was walking his two dogs through the garden and brought to his attention the rules regarding dogs, but all I got were rude words and to mind my own business. Mind you he still does it because he lives right next to it.

Ġnien Pawlu Boffa, as this garden is called, needs all the council's attention. Can you believe that the council is in the midst of it and the Mayor turns a blind eye and ignores the mess this beautiful garden has turned into? The fountain or pond in the middle serves only as a rubbish pit, the swings and climbing frame need to be painted and some flowers have to be planted to make it more colourful. Some weeks ago I noticed that the benches had been painted, but that was it, nothing else was done. I know that this garden has been vandalised a couple of times but if so can't there be a watchman or gardener to take care of it?

I implore the Mayor to take a look out of his window and hear our pleas, and not to trim the trees before the hot weather prevails as we parents need the shade when we are waiting for our children. The people of Paola have put him in office to do his job and care more, not care less.
