Leaders of faith

Top of my list, when choosing who to vote for, is the person who is convinced of his Christian Faith and follows it. I believe that both Eddie Fenech Adami and Lawrence Gonzi have this in common. Let us not take for granted, because we are now living in a secular state, that religion does not play a very important role in the lives of many of us who vote and that we still want to be represented by people who are less likely to be corrupted. We all know that power corrupts and the temptation is there even for those who profess the Faith but I would trust the man who loves God before one who does not.

I am not suggesting that the godless politician is not an honest man. It is just that I have more confidence in a godly leader. It matters to me that the laws enacted in our country remain within the ethical and moral boundaries set by the Church, even though many will disagree because they want to legitimise situations to suit their needs, or because they want to be all embracing.

The Labour Party, the opinionated, the media and every man on the piazza are analysing the results of the election and a new leader will inevitably be chosen in the hope of taking the MLP to the next election successfully. Those concerned may need to consider that there are a number of voters like myself who will continue to choose godly men to represent them in Parliament, regardless of the modern trends to exclude God from our lives as if He were not the one who created it.

These are the words of Pope Benedict XVI spoken a few days ago: "The vibrant exchange between Hellenistic culture and Christianity allowed the former to be transformed by Christian teaching and the latter to be enriched by Greek language and philosophy. (...) Even today, visitors to Athens can contemplate Paul's words - now etched on the monument overlooking the Areopagus - which he proclaimed to the learned citizens of the 'polis.' He spoke of the one God in whom 'we live and move and have our being."

The issue here is safeguarding our identity. We are Christians and the majority of voters are too. This important factor needs to be given its due consideration. Maybe the key to the future success of the MLP is just this.

Mr Martinelli, I’ll have you know that I have never whined in my entire life. Not even when the ‘good guys’ that you are so prompt to defend from the slum-city of London, Ontario, thought fit to continue paying my salary while giving me absolute zilch to do. I was put in a limbo of zero workload from a previous average of 12 hours a day.
And THAT, Mr Martinelli, was in 1987, in October, to be exact. They never had the guts to take up my invitation challenging them to take me to court if they had even the minutest suspicion of any wrongdoing in my past. NO, they preferred to pay me for nothing – out of public funds, of course - because they do not accept that one can be a professional and apolitical in his work. At that time I wasn’t even voting (my choice). The mere fact that I had delivered under a Labour Government was enough to warrant my being left out in the cold. So much for Christian values!
As for my being “too young”, I was already well established in my profession when you were still a whining little boy at Marsascala, with the street light streaming into your balcony!

Wally, if only you would pop your nose out of your 'merde', you will then be able to breathe some fresher air.

Wally stop wailing!
Before you cast your stones, better retreat to your glass house! Maybe you are too young to remember the fair treatment of the Press, the private individuals who disagreed with the Labour governments of the 70's and 80's?
Now you have the liberty of writing all the nonsense you want without interference. You should have tried that in those days. Some courageous editors tried it and The Times was burned dpwn. Enough Wally!

Good woman, if the way that non-adherents to their party were treated by the Fenech Adami and the Gonzi administrations is a demonstration of putting the "Christian Faith" into practice, then, I am afraid, we are in deepest 'merde'!
