Capello due to give court evidence in Rome next week

England manager Fabio Capello will be called to give evidence next Monday in a Rome trial in which former Italy coach Marcello Lippi's son is among the accused, judicial sources told Reuters yesterday.

Davide Lippi is one of six men accused of fostering unfair competition through the use of threats or violence as part of the Gea World sports agency, which used to manage the careers of several footballers and coaches.

Lippi, who steered Italy to their 2006 World Cup triumph, is likely to appear in court to give evidence at his son's trial on April 1, the sources said.

Capello and Lippi, who are both former Juventus coaches, were on a list of 52 witnesses presented by public prosecutor Luca Palamara at a Rome hearing yesterday.

Juve forward David Trezeguet gave testimony at the trial last month.

Luciano Moggi, the former Juve general manager who was banned from soccer for five years in Italy's match-fixing affair, is also one of the defendants, along with his son Alessandro, the former head of Gea World.
