Australian teenager Stephanie Rice broke her second world record in three days at the national Olympic trials yesterday. The 19-year-old added the 200 IM record to the 400 mark she claimed on Saturday when she stopped the clock at two minutes 08.92 seconds. Her time slashed 0.80 off the previous record of 2:09.72, set by China's Wu Yanyan at Shanghai in 1997, which was the second oldest long course (50-metre pool) world record still standing.

World record holder Leisel Jones reached her third Olympics by winning the women's 100 metres breaststroke at the Australian trials this week. The 22-year-old secured her place in Beijing when she won the final in one minute 05.75 seconds ahead of her former training partner Tarnee White (1:06.46).

Jones, who also holds the 200 world record, has dominated women's breaststroke for the past eight years but has yet to win an individual Olympic title.
