A19-year-old woman from Sta Luċija is in a critical condition after she was involved in a traffic accident in Aldo Moro Street, Marsa, on Monday night.
Sources said the police are investigating the circumstances of the crash including the possibility of a second car being involved in the accident.
The police only found a wrecked Ford Ka with two occupants inside - the driver, aged 19, from Msida and the woman passenger who was grievously injured - when they reached the spot at about 11.15 p.m.
Civil Protection Department personnel were called to free the woman from the vehicle.
Preliminary police investigations indicated that, for some reason, the driver had lost control of the Ford Ka, hit the kerb and crashed against a wall. However, the police have at this stage not discounted the possibility that another car could have somehow been involved.
The passenger and the driver, who was also injured, were taken to Mater Dei Hospital in an ambulance.
Magistrate Audrey Demicoli appointed a team of court experts to help in an inquiry.
