Now that the election is over there are two laws that must get through Parliament soon after it convenes.
The first is the Whistleblower Act, which should protect every citizen who contributes to the uncovering of corrupt practices, and the second is the Freedom of Information Act. This will ensure that anyone who requests information regarding any government decision, such as contracts, permits, including those issued by Mepa and so on, can send a simple letter requiring all the necessary information. In other countries such as the United Kingdom it has uncovered many infringements of the law.
Local councils should also be included as nowadays many councils will acknowledge a letter sent to them but then everything stops there. The actual information asked for is not sent to the person concerned.
The Prime Minister had promised this in the last legislature and, seeing that he believes in more transparency in government, it should be one of his priorities.
