In the first game last Wednesday, the Marsa team won the toss and elected to bat first. The Stockport bowlers bowled extremely well and managed to keep the local side down to 132 runs from the allotted overs.
John Grima top scored with 41 runs not out, while Mark G. Sacco (18 runs), Justin Brooke (16) and Ronnie Sacco (13) were the only other batsmen to make it to double figures. For the visitors, S. Porritt took three wickets and M. Barrow two.
Stockport chased down the runs in 30 overs with R. Barber top scoring with 62 runs. Mike Caruana took two of the three wickets for the home side. Stockport went one up in the series.
On Saturday, Stockport won the toss and elected to bat first. A. Roughey made 58 runs to top the scoring charts, M. Eley scored 51 and M. Green 16 from a total of 175 runs.
For Marsa, Nowell Khosla took two wickets while four bowlers took a wicket each. The Marsa reply started off well enough with Joy Ghoseroy making 35 runs and Nowell Khosla 17.
Marsa were three wickets down for 76 runs off 15 overs, well poised to go for victory. M. Barrow had other ideas for the visitors, taking four wickets to rip the heart out of the home team.
Gordon Hewitt and Sunny Krishna were the only other batsmen to make double figures scoring 14 and 10 runs respectively. The Marsa side only managed to score 122 runs as Stockport took a 2-0 lead.
On Sunday, Marsa won the toss and elected to field first. The Marsa team bowled well and restricted the visitors to 111 runs from the 20 overs which were allotted.
A. Porter top scored with 33 runs not out, while C. Smith scored 27. For Marsa, Ronnie Sacco, Sam Dhandapani and Mike Caruana all took two wickets each.
The Marsa team made the runs in the 17th over with Joy Ghoseroy scoring 42 runs, Sam Dhandapani 12, Chris Naudi 23, including a six, and Nadeem Ashraf 28, also including a six. Marsa won the game and lost the series 2-1.
Next weekend, Marsa face Brooklands, both games commencing at 10.30 a.m. at the Marsa Cricket Ground. The nursery/academy will be from 9.30 till 11.30 a.m.
