Coventry City manager Chris Coleman has decided to release eight players when their contracts expire at the end of the season.

Veteran defender Arjan de Zeeuw and former Northern Ireland midfielder Michael Hughes are among those on their way out of the Ricoh Arena, along with Colin Hawkins, Stuart Giddings, Ellery Cairo, Wayne Andrews, Lee Hildreth and Liam Davis.

However, Marcus Hall, Stephen Hughes, Danny Ireland and Andy Marshall have all been offered new deals.

Lehmann ponders retirement

Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has hinted he could retire after this summer's European Championships - but still believes he has a part to play in the Gunners' end-of-season push for honours.

The Germany international has spent much of the season on the Arsenal bench after losing his place to Manuel Almunia, but he remains confident his experience can help Arsene Wenger's side as they attempt to win both the Premier League and the Champions League.

"I don't know what I will do after the summer," he told www.fifa.com.

"I will play the European Championships and then it depends on whether I get a good offer. If I do, I might play on another two years, and if not, I probably might retire."

Bilic wants Eduardo at Euro 2008

Croatia coach Slaven Bilic is hoping Arsenal will allow injured striker Eduardo da Silva to join up with the squad for this summer's Euro 2008.

Bilic says Eduardo is determined to join the squad in Austria and Switzerland and that all the players want to see the 25-year-old part of their group.

"I am speaking to him every couple of days and the players are really close to him and are talking to him as well," Bilic told Sky Sports News.

"We would like to have him from day one of Euro 2008 but Eduardo is Arsenal's player."

Buffon targets European final

Gianluigi Buffon has revealed his belief that Juventus could find themselves in a Champions League final within the next two years.

The Bianconeri look to be returning to Europe's biggest club competition after their demotion to Serie B in 2006 robbed them of European Cup action for two seasons.

"I believe in the Champions League final," Buffon told Tuttosport.

"When? In two or three years, because I think this team can return given time. We display strong character, grit and determination - this allows us to overcome any technical deficiencies that we may have."

Colantuono replaces Guidolin

Palermo have sacked coach Francesco Guidolin and reinstated his predecessor Stefano Colantuono.

"Palermo felt that, in the light of the events of recent days, the conditions did not exist to confirm faith in Mr Francesco Guidolin who, therefore, is relieved of the post of coach of the first team," read a statement on the club's website. "The position has been entrusted to Mr Stefano Colantuono."

The end of Guidolin's fourth stint on the Palermo bench comes after three consecutive league defeats and a series of public spats between the coach and club president Maurizio Zamparini over the last week.

Keegan keen to tie up Owen

Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan has urged the club's owners to agree a new contract with striker Michael Owen to prevent him being tempted away by a better offer.

Owen's current deal expires at the end of next season. "I've already started to say we should be talking to Michael now, not next week," said Keegan.

"Michael's not going to stop scoring, he's not going to stop catching the eye and Michael is going to be wanted by other clubs. But at the moment he's here."

Ronaldo, Nani to miss friendly

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani have been ruled out of Portugal's Euro 2008 warm-up with Greece in Duesseldorf, Germany tomorrow due to injuries.

Ronaldo and Nani, who both scored in United's 3-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday, are suffering from leg muscle problems, the federation said on its website.

Referee exclusion zone suggested

English players' union (PFA) chief executive Gordon Taylor has called for the introduction of an exclusion zone around referees following recent incidents of player dissent.

"I have made it clear referees should be a no-go area," Taylor said after Liverpool's Javier Mascherano was sent off on Sunday for harrowing referee Steve Bennett over his decisions. "It is time managers and players did accept a responsibility."

Maresca apologises for headbutt

Sevilla midfielder Enzo Maresca has apologised for headbutting Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero during his side's 2-1 defeat at the Sanchez Pizjuan on Saturday.

"I apologised to the player after the match and I want to apologise to my team, the club, the fans and to everyone who saw the match as it was an ugly gesture," the Italian told a news conference.
