Resources Minister George Pullicino has denied claims about the involvement of a member of his secretariat in the Mistra case.

"The minister denies that any official from his private secretariat ever spoke to, or pressured George Micallef" the Resources Ministry said in a statement.

Mr Micallef, an MTA consultant who was previously a consultant on the Mistra project, in a statement yesterday had spoken of pressure by a Mepa/government official as well as by Nationalist MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando.

Earlier, the government said that is was strongly condemning attempts by the Labour Party to try to influence the police investigation into the Mistra case through its statements.

"It appears once again that the Labour Party is trying to interfere in an independent investigation for political or ulterior motives," the government said in a statement.

In a reference to calls by the MLP for the Prime Minister to explain what he had known about the Mistra case before the general election, the government pointed out that Dr Gonzi had already declared that he would not comment until the investigation was concluded.

It appealed to the MLP and its media to act responsibly.
