Chris Kirkland became the second England goalkeeper to pull out of the squad for the friendly with France in Paris after injuring his back playing for Wigan Athletic against Blackburn on Saturday.

West Ham United's Robert Green has been called in as a replacement for Kirkland for Wednesday's match at the Stade de France, just 24 hours after Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson was restored to the squad by Fabio Capello following the withdrawal of Scott Carson.

Kirkland finished the match, which Wigan lost 3-1, but took a bad tumble in the third minute of the game.

Carson, on loan to Aston Villa from Liverpool, was withdrawn on Saturday after his team's home defeat by Sunderland. Neither Robinson or Green were named in Capello's initial 30-man squad on Thursday.
