I am sure the Prime Minister has the backing of most if not all the Maltese tax payers in stopping all subsidies to the shipyards by the end of this year whether or not the workers there pull up their socks. We have been pumping more than enough of our hard-earned money all these years.
With a few exceptions, the shipyard workers have not been collaborating but only putting spokes in the wheels. We should also analyse the role of the General Workers Union which does not seem to have helped to improve the situation at the shipyards. I would be in order to establish who is to blame for the low productivity which is affecting the company so badly.
And the reason is nothing but politics.
Issa daqshekk! has been Tony Zarb's battle cry in the recent past. This should be applied here too.
