Kimi Raikkonen won the second round of the 2008 formula one championship in Sepang this morning with a triumphant exhibition of man and machine.

The reigning champion demonstrated his skills as a driver as he kept up with pole sitter Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa, then passed him in the first round of pit stops and managed to open up a gap before the Brazilian spun out, denying Ferrari a sure 1-2.

BMW's Robert Kubica came in second, 22 seconds behind Raikkonen, and new McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen made it to third.

Jarno Truili was fourth in an improving Toyoya and Lewis Hamilton came fifth in the second McLaren. He had started from ninth and made up four places at the start. He moved up to third before a problematic first stop relegated him back to 11th and he had to start all over again.

Nick Heidefeld (BMW) was sixth, Mark Webber (Red Bull) was seventh and Fernando Alonso (Renault) eighth. The race was held under dry weather.
