Pembroke crash victim dies

Businessman Neil Macklin, 32, of Naxxar, died yesterday morning, eight days after he was involved in a traffic accident in Pembroke.

Mr Macklin died as result of injuries he sustained during a collision between his BMW motorcycle and a car on the Coast Road on March 14. He never regained consciousness.

Originally from Scotland, the victim had lived and worked in Malta for the past 14 years and was a well-known personality. With business interests in the oil and gas industry, he was influential in introducing Maltese workers to the offshore drilling industry.

He was a keen motorcyclist and attended many international rallies and events and travelled extensively around the world.

Macklin is survived by his long-term partner Lynn Simpson and parents Sandy and Frieda Macklin, who live in Australia, all of whom were with him when he passed away. He would have celebrated his 33rd birthday on Tuesday.

A funeral service will be held in Malta on Wednesday.
