UPDATED: Man held as more illegal fireworks are found
The police are investigating the discovery of an illegal fireworks factory in Mellieha near Popeye Village. A man, also from Mellieha, is being held over the case.
The discovery, the latest in a series following the tragic explosion in Naxxar, came after a tip off.
The police in a statement this evening said that a "considerable amount" of explosive material and material related to fireworks had been found, A man is expected to be arraigned in court. Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera is holding an inquiry.
Five arraignments over the discovery of illegal fireworks have been made so far.
The police on Saturday also reported the discovery of a truck laden with fireworks in Xaghra, Gozo, Three men are being questioned in connection with that case.

The government should have a 1 month amnesty for illegal fireworks to be collected without any punishment - after that a heavy fine should apply, under any circumstances.
All legal firweork manufacturers must be registered and carry up to date insurance (Euros 750,000?) to pay for any damage or injuries they might accidently inflict - car drivers have to have insurance in case of accidents, why not firework manufacturers?
