St Venera primary school 'C' has recently started a Comenius project entitled 'Healthy Effective Contri-butors in the 21st century' together with two other schools from Scotland and Sweden.
School head Alfred Mifsud and project co-ordinator Julian Tabone attended the first project meeting which was held at St Timothy's primary school in Glasgow, Scotland, between February 14 and 18.
At the meeting it was agreed that each partner school would research eating habits and typical food in their respective countries, develop and share healthy menus using local produce, use ICT to record healthy activities in each school including sports and physical education classes, and develop a joint web page where children and staff can post ideas and best practice.
In the project's second year the schools are also planning to hold 'e-Olympics' where each school will participate in the same sporting activities and compare times and results. Students will also prepare a celebratory meal for their parents and local communities.
The project's final activity will be a Health Promotion Week in which each school will display and exhibit all the materials produced.
The local school is currently preparing to host the second project partners' second meeting which will be held in May.
