Teachers from San Anton School, L-Imselliet, recently joined counterparts from schools in Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, France, Poland, and Spain for a meeting of partners involved in the Comenius 1 project 'European Art and Culture - Source and Inspiration for Extra Value in Early Education', which was held in Matalascanas, southern Spain.
The school was represented by its PE teacher and project co-ordinator Kenneth Deguara, accompanied by Michelle Abela and Jackie Fenech, junior sector music and art teachers respectively.
At the meeting, the teachers presented the students' art work, original music, written and performed by the students themselves, works on experimental theatre undertaken as a result of the project, and put up an exhibition about their respective countries and school activities.
The teachers also discussed the final product of the project, which is nearing its end after two and a half years.
Another benefit of the meeting was that it enabled the teachers to exchange ideas, teaching methods and experiences. The French and Spanish teachers in the group will be visiting Malta and San Anton School in the coming months to strengthen and further develop the educational ties formed during this meeting.
The local teachers' visit was supported by the European Union Programmes Agency using EU funds.
As part of the cultural programme, the teachers visited Donana National Park, the World Sea Museum, Almonte town council, the monastery in El Rocio. They also spent a day in Seville where they visited the Royal Palace of Alcazar, the Plaza de Espana and the cathedral.
