Lufthansa Cargo has been presented with the police quality seal in recognition of 'Exceptionally safe delivery of cargo shipments' by the Interior and Sports Minister in the State of Hesse, Volker Bouffier. The cargo carrier has introduced security standards that have significantly reduced the incidence of theft and criminal offences. The new procedure improves security at a number of points in the delivery chain.
The improvements range from forgery-proof documentation and additional checks on outgoing shipments to photos of persons collecting freight. Extra cameras are also in place to keep warehouses and the surrounding area under strict surveillance. Karl-Heinz Köpfle, Lufthansa Cargo board member operations, said: "The new procedure has made freight delivery with Lufthansa Cargo even safer. Since the end of 2006, we have eliminated forgeries and reduced damage from theft by 97 per cent. That has profited us and, above all, our worldwide customers."
Harald Zielinski, Lufthansa Cargo security chief, added: "The launch of our 'Security Hub Systems' has given us a maximum security regime. Security is and remains a key constituent of Lufthansa Cargo's DNA."
Lufthansa Cargo developed the new freight delivery system in the framework of the 'Cargo Safe' project in co-operation with the Fraport operator at Frankfurt Airport, the Fraport cargo subsidiary Fraport Cargo Services and the police force in Hesse.
