Ryan Gambin continued to lower his own best times at the European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven this week after establishing a second national record in the space of a few days. On Thursday, Gambin, 22, represented Malta in the 50m backstroke event.

Ryan Gambin continued to lower his own best times at the European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven this week after establishing a second national record in the space of a few days.

On Thursday, Gambin, 22, represented Malta in the 50m backstroke event. He went on to shave 1.59 seconds off the previous best mark. His new time of 26.78 placed him 25th in the overall classification from 37 entries.

Gambin's other record in Holland was set on Tuesday when he swam the 50m butterfly in 24.81 seconds.

Today, Gambin takes part in the 100m butterfly and aims to go below the 54.71-second barrier to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing. Last month, he clocked 55.74 seconds in an ASA time-trial meet.
