The annual Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Forum focused on the "dynamic enterprise", an agile, mobile, knowledgeable and responsive environment where Enterprise 2.0 applications and Alcatel-Lucent's communication technologies strengthen business relationships, simplify communications, and improve enterprise performance by connecting networks, people and processes in real time.
Alcatel-Lucent provides solutions that enable service providers, enterprises and governments worldwide, to deliver voice, data and video communication services to end-users. It has 79,000 employees and operations in more than 130 countries. It represents a combined research and development investment of € 2.7 billion in 2005, and a portfolio of over 25,000 active patents spanning virtually every technology area.
During the forum the company announced agreements with major market players. It has been selected by ZON Multimédia, the Portuguese Telecom company and leading cable operator of the country, to provide the largest single platform contact centre ever implemented in Portugal.
Latin America's eighth largest industrial conglomerate also selected Alcatel-Lucent's hybrid telephony solution for nationwide deployment.
HP and Alcatel-Lucent announced the successful migration to a new state-of-the-art, Tier Four data centre. Located just outside of Paris in Marcoussis, France, it is the most robust, secure and fault tolerant type of data centre available to date.
Alcatel-Lucent said it is aware that Malta's telecommunications networks are now digital and therefore advanced services are provided such as high-speed data transmission, IP communication, multimedia applications, broadband internet, GSM, UMTS and HSDPA mobile telephony.
In fact Alcatel-Lucent has been involved in a number of projects, covering all segments of communication industry, from submarine networks to enterprise solutions, from broadband fixed and mobile access to optical and wireless transport solutions, to intelligent network platforms. These projects were done for major operators such as Go Plc and Vodafone.
In order to strengthen its local presence, Alcatel-Lucent opened a new branch in Valletta last year.
"Malta is undoubtedly located in a strategic position, in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, where it can work as a potential bridge between Europe and Africa," the company said.
