Delicata Wines have donated €500 (Lm214.65) to the Guatemalan Charity Fund.

The donation was based on the sale of every bottle of Delicata wine in the last few months of 2007 in the Café Jubilee outlets in Valletta, Gżira and Victoria and at Otters Restaurant in Marsalforn, Anthony Scicluna, of Café Jubilee, said.

The fund was initially set up to help a young Gozitan missionary in Guatemala develop an internet centre at the school where he works. This was quickly achieved and Café Jubilee agreed to work on Project Tilapia, which involves the setting up of a fish farm that will help the local community in a number of ways, Mr Scicluna explained.

The most obvious benefit is the creation of an economically-viable workplace that will help the community financially and, in addition, introduce a new high-protein food item into their diet.

Work, which started with the construction of a dam and reservoirs, quickly moved onto the actual fish farm itself, which will be completed in a few weeks' time, according to Mr Scicluna.

The Delicata promotion will continue throughout this year based on the number of bottles of Delicata wines sold.
