Triq San Nikola is a narrow, ancient, 100-metre winding street right in the middle of Żurrieq. To make it look more rustic, they excavated its surface bringing it down to its dusty ancient origins. This was some five weeks ago. In the meantime last week's deluge turned this tiny street into a puddle of soil, dirt and mud. The effect was magical.

We have now entered the sixth week of this back-to-basics phase and there are still no signs of resurfacing this 100-metre street. Could it be that they are leaving it in its original 16th century state as part of Żurrieq heritage? After all council elections are now over, and residents are all third age - their pleas won't be heard.

Shame on those who are responsible for leaving a mere 100-metre tiny street in this pitiable state. Who is accountable? It was planned to be ready before the election but now that the elections are over, there is no hurry to continue with works, leaving this street a replica of times gone by.
