One of the most important events of the year at the Royal Malta Golf Club is the Scratch competition held over two days. Forty three golfers took part and none of them got the benefit of their handicap.
A best-ever score of 62 shots was made on Day One by Andy Borg. Ruud Critien was second with 69 shots and Peter Satariano third, 71.
There was little doubt that Borg was going to win on Day Two and he duly completed with a round of 67. In the past, he has played professional golf and has a handicap of -2.
Warren Alcock had a round of 70 and Critien 71. These top three on Day Two were followed by J.J. Micallef with 75 and then Paul Stoner and Nick Borg, both with 76. Peter Satariano blew his chances of a prize by going out of bounds three times on one hole.
Borg was the winner by a substantial margin, Critien was second and Warren Alcock third.
Running concurrently with this competition was the Hackers Trophy, open for those with a handicap of over 18. Keith Baker won with a commendable gross score of 82 followed by Frank Wagg, 86, and David Saunders, 88.
