Ryan Gambin lowered his own national record in the 50 metres butterfly event at the European Swimming Championships in Eindhoven yesterday.

Australia-based Gambin completed the one-lap race in 24.81 seconds to brush 0.25 off the previous record he set at an ASA time-trial meeting held at the National Pool earlier this year.

The 22-year-old, who finished 27th overall from 52 swimmers, failed to make the cut to the semi-finals.

Gambin, who is bidding to qualify for the Beijing Olympics, will be in action again tomorrow in the 50m backstroke heats.
