The police seized a small amount of explosive material from a Marsascala residence and a man is expected to be charged in court over the matter in the coming weeks, the police said yesterday.
Members of the Armed Forces of Malta's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit assisted the police in their investigations at the Marsascala home where a small amount of explosives and other material used for the manufacture of fireworks was found on Monday afternoon, the police said. Since last Wednesday's Naxxar fireworks explosion that killed two people and demolished several houses, the police have been getting phone calls reporting that explosive material was being stored illegally.
The police have been investigating the calls and most searches proved negative. However, over the past week, four men have been arraigned and charged with the illegal possession of fireworks material.
