A man from Żabbar was jailed for two-and-a-half years after he admitted to stealing a pair of car stereo speakers and handling stolen property on January 29.

Antoine Sciberras admitted to stealing the speakers from a Renault in Cospicua, handling stolen property, causing more than €116.50 (Lm50) in damage to the car and committing a crime within the operative sentence of a suspended jail term.

After considering Mr Sciberras's early guilty plea, the court jailed him for one year for stealing the stereo speakers, causing damage to the car and to relapsing. Another 18 months imprisonment were added in view of the fact that he had been given an 18-month jail term suspended for four years in May 2005. Senior Police Inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted.

Lawyer Ian Farrugia appeared for Mr Sciberras.
