A 57-year-old man yesterday pleaded not guilty to violently assaulting a woman in Żabbar late last month.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi heard Saviour Spiteri of Valletta plead not guilty to violently assaulting a woman, holding her against her will, harassing her, slightly injuring her and threatening to use violence against her.

The woman's name cannot be mentioned to protect her identity.

The court granted bail to the accused against a personal guarantee of €3,000 (Lm1,287.55).

Police Inspectors Louise Calleja and Fabian Fleri prosecuted.

Lawyers Arthur Azzopardi and Kris Busietta appeared for Mr Spiteri.
