Farrugia attends BOA seminar in London

Carlo Farrugia has just returned from a three-day seminar organised by the British Olympic Academy (BOA) in London.

This is the second consecutive year that Farrugia has been invited to attend this special session.

Various topics were covered during the seminar with special emphasis given to the London 2012 Games.

Important personalities addressed the seminar among whom Christophe Dubi, IOC Sports Director, Lord Collin Moynihan, chairman British Olympic Association, Andrew Ryan, Director Association of Summer Olympic International Federations, Louise Martin, Honorary Secretary Commonwealth Games Federation, Sue Campbell, chairperson UK Sport and John James, chairman British Olympic Foundation.

The preparations for London 2012 were explained together with the enormous amount of activity ahead of these Games. Speakers also explained the build-up for the athletes participating in the Olympic and Paralympic Games and, more importantly, of the legacy that the Games will leave behind.

Sarah Winckless, Olympic bronze medallist in rowing in Athens 2004, recalled her experiences and successes. The seminar was attended by 120 participants.

Farrugia was invited in his personal capacity as an Executive Board member of the International Olympic Academy Participants Association (IOAPA). He has been associated with the International Olympic Academy since his first visit to Olympia in 1995 and has returned several times in different capacities.

In addition, Farrugia has been invited by various National Olympic Academies in other countries to deliver presentations and exchange his experiences within the Olympic Family. He participated in the Sydney Torch Relay in 2000 and acted as a volunteer during the Athens 2004 Games and Turin 2006.

Farrugia said: "Participation in these seminars is important since it increases and widens one's personal knowledge and experiences.

"The networking gathered during these seminars is an added value for the individual that can be passed on and transmitted to others."
