Unifaun Theatre Company will present its first production in Maltese, and its debut at the Manoel Theatre, with an unorthodox play titled Minn Wara ż-Żipp.

The choice of play is almost expected from this maverick theatre company, and this time it's an original script penned by well-known local writer Trevor Zahra.

Dealing with the male sex, its behaviour and nature, the play could be described as a sort of Vagina Monologues, as seen from the male perspective.

Unifaun producer Adrian Buckle said the idea for this production came about following a conversation with Mr Zahra who happened to be working on the play. Mr Buckle immediately snapped it up as he felt it was the perfect Maltese script for Unifaun to produce.

"It's a funny play. We would have just finished our electoral debacles and Lenten rituals and I think it comes at a good time to help us all sit back and relax," Mr Buckle said.

"It is a very good comedy, which speaks about what men go through in life. Besides the obvious humoristic slant, there are also moments of pathos and seriousness, which should get us thinking. It is a play with something for everyone; it is all that a Maltese script should be," he added.

The play is being directed by Chris Gatt and the cast is made up of Jean Pierre Busuttil, Renato Dimech and "Snits" Spiteri.

Minn Wara ż-Żipp will be staged at the Manoel Theatre on March 28-30. Tickets can be bought from the booking office in Valletta. Phone on 2124 6389, or send an e-mail to bookings@teatrumanoel.com.mt, www.unifauntheatre.com.
