Winner should not take all - Żminijietna
The relative majority obtained by the Nationalists in last week's general election should not result in a 'winner-takes-all' scenario, according to Żminijietna - Voice of the Left.
In its reaction to the general election, Żminijietna congratulated the Nationalist Party and Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi for the result and appealed to the Government to give importance to the welfare state and public services.
"The Labour Party suffered a minimal defeat, yet this should ring a bell as regards the party's direction and strategies. We thank Alfred Sant for his services to Malta and the Labour Party and we salute him for conducting a civil and honest campaign," it said.

Whether majority is relative or absolute, it is still a majority. In our scenario, with such a polarised electorate, the best any of the two parties can hope to obtain is ±50% of votes. Does that make governing untenable? The situation is what it is.
