Those perfecting their beer bellies should be pleased to read that local pubs will be giving St Patrick's a head start this time round with celebrations commencing this morning rather than on their traditional stipulated date of March 17.
The decision was taken as a result of next week's liturgical functions.
With more than 60 million people claiming Irish blood, including the 4.1 million citizens of Ireland, the feast has become an international celebration... and another reason to drink beer.
And whether it's a parade through the streets or a gathering at the pub, one authentic element remains constant: Guinness, Ireland's best-selling stout and most recognisable export. In fact, much like the feast, the beer is rich in tradition.
St Patrick's and Guinness are recognised around the world as Irish icons, John Hudson, master brewer at Guinness, said.
A number of local pubs will therefore be honouring St Patrick with Guinness promotions and traditional Irish music. But remember to be sensible about the consumption of alcohol and responsible when consuming it... and wear something green to avoid getting pinched.
