The last general election kept us all waiting with bated breath for the official results to be announced.

A wafer-thin majority has given one party the legal right to form a government for this legislature. Yet it seems that, albeit legally within its rights, this is not at par on a morality basis.

Apart from the fact that the party in office registered a relative majority, with a close second party trailing behind by just 1,500 votes, I understand that over 3,000 expats returned to Malta to cast their vote on e-day.

One asks: How many of these 3,000-odd have actually spent six months of the previous 18 in Malta as stipulated by law in order to have the right to vote?

Given that 3,000 is a greater number than 1,500, and also considering the likely possibility that the vast majority of the ex-pats are PN supporters, and assuming (I have no way of checking) that many of these do not satisfy the six-on-18-month rule, is it by any chance possible that we have an illegitimate government in office?
