Election miscarriage
It is utterly preposterous and totally incomprehensible to the average non-manipulated voter how gonzipn (as the PN now refers to itself), having been defeated by the popular vote, having lost numerically in the seats formally allotted in the House of Representatives, having been instrumental in reshuffling the districts, now finds itself unjustly, in a democracy, being regaled four seats to compensate for its overall electoral loss!
This is an insult to the electorate who is ultimately the political sovereign. Hence the reasoning that the vote, the citizen's ultimate democratic power, is being ridiculed and reduced to the whims of political circles (even if under the guise of a legal canopy) which is tantamount to an election miscarriage. As the realistic, factual situation developed, the PN cannot govern democratically because in the most explicit of ways, the political sovereign determined otherwise.
To go against the will of the political sovereign signifies a showdown with democracy. Are we prepared to tolerate this defiance of democracy?
Is this European democracy that the President of the European Commission is presiding over? The free, democratic citizens of the EU might not be prepared to tolerate much further this type of abuse which reduces them to an inferior level to the representatives they elect when obviously the law expressly provides otherwise. And we are law abiding...

Stop trying to douse your wounds by calling the people who didn't vote for you, "Manipulated". Its not like somebody told me who to vote for...I made up my own mind thank you very much. Looked at the proposals and history and chose the best. By the result, looks like i chose well. Also, why would a liberal democratic party, hold mass meetings with Far Right leaders? One with a lord of the rings shield as an emblem and the other the Lightning of Zeus.
The problem in Malta is party-loyalty and of course the well known fact that Coalitions are short lived messes. But to call you an alternative is laughable, you would get one seat and sit there complaining while the ruling party rules on. Why the hell should we vote for you if it doesn't make a difference, except make the government unstable. Election miscarriage? Not really, the party who got the most votes won, simple as that really.

Wow! This is rich coming from a one hand paper hanger who garnered all of 21 votes out of a possible 315,357. Could it be that those who did not bother to vote were all from the ALD ?
This fledgling champion, expert in 'authentic democracy' also wrote, albeit a little different letter than the above, in another English language newspaper.
After the labourious and hectic five week campaign, now over, Mr. Bezzina has that much more time to regale us with so many gems!

Dr Bezzina, what would you suggest? I mean, no party got an absolute majority, none of the small parties made it to parliament... Should Malta remain without a government? Should small parties and independent candidates like yourself be banned from contesting the next election, hence ensuring that the winning party has an absolute majority of votes? Dr. Bezzina, unfortunately you sound like a person who criticises without ever offering any answers...

if the electoral result had been in favour of the Malta Labour Party by a few hundred votes?
I suppose that is a hypothetical question and therefore there is no need fo an answer.
This is a democractic country and the constitution has to be respected. Yes, the constitution states that the party that represents the absolute minority of voters has the right to govern. So be it.
