An explosion struck a NATO-led force convoy in Afghanistan's southern city of Kandahar, but it was not immediately clear if there were any casualties, witnesses said.

It was not known what had caused the blast. Afghanistan has witnessed rising violence in the past two years, the bloodiest period since US-led troops overthrew the Taliban's government in 2001.
