Night falls on the village of Mosta. The villagers all settle down peacefully to rest. But they are unaware that a group of corsairs are travelling, from far away across the seas, to raid their village.

During the raid, one of the beautiful village girls is kidnapped and the corsairs' ruler chooses her to be his bride.

But, although she is promised riches, land and jewels, she is very sad and begs to be allowed to return home.

L-Għarusa tal-Mosta describes the heroine's adventures and her return to her loved one. The characters involved include the ruler of this far away country - Baxan - and his vizier, his beautiful wives and dancing slaves. Amy Smith, Pamela Kerr and Erika Bonnici, who are among Malta's foremost ballerinas, will lead the cast, which includes Karl Cini and Keith Micallef in the principal male roles of the ruler Baxan and his vizier.

The ballet is being presented as part of Dance Workshop's annual ballet production, Verve'08. It will be held at St Agatha's Auditorium, Rabat on the March 18 and 19. Tickets can be booked at Dance Workshop, at the National Pool Complex, in Gżira. Phone 2134 7456, or the Dance Studio, Sliema Road, Kappara, or phone 2137 3668 or 2124 2465 and 9942 9233.
